I don’t care what anyone says – I’m obsessed with the tulle-lace veil in Chanel’s Haute Couture fall/winter 2011. After a weekend of pre-Bastille Day festivities that including munching on brightly colored macarons and frolicking around French street fairs, I took a time out from my revelry to view the romantically disposed collection. Shown at the Grand Paris’ Palais, first constructed for Paris’ Universal Exposition of 1900, the collection highlighted Chanel’s signature feminine look, but with a sensuous gothic element that even Coco Chanel would be proud of. At 10 p.m., models graced the runway in a sea of moonlight and predestined lighting that created both an illuminating and nostalgic effect. Lagerfeld’s love affair with Paris was clearly acknowledged as he presented girls draped in loose mannish silhouettes nipped at the waist combined with over-the-knee boots and fingerless gloves.Viva la France indeed.
