New Creative Director Named For Alexander McQueen

Sarah Burton, credited with finishing Alexander McQueen's autumn/winter 2010-2011 collection just in time for Paris Fashion week following the designer's tragic suicide, has been named the brand's new creative director. Burton became a part of the McQueen team in 1996, just a year before she graduated from Central St. Martins (whose alumni include McQueen himself along with other well-known designers like Stella McCartney and John Galliano). “We got on very well and he said, ‘Why don’t you just stay?’ I went back to school for a year and I continued working there at the same time. He completely taught me everything,” Burton reported to the New York Times. Four years later, she was named head of womenswear design. It seems like the Gucci Group has made the right choice, Burton is definitely the right woman for the job and we're excited to see what she'll bring us next. "We are ready to enter a new phase in the brand's history," Jonathan Akeroyd, the Alexander McQueen chief executive, said. So are we.
